American actor and producer Tom Cruise is well-known for his parts in a number of blockbuster films. He was raised in a Catholic household and was given the name Thomas Cruise Mapother IV on July 3, 1962, in Syracuse, New York. His mother was a special education teacher, and his father worked as an electrical engineer.
Growing up, Cruise attended a number of different schools, including an Ottawa, Canada, high school and a Franciscan seminary. He relocated to New York City to pursue an acting career after finishing high school.
